July, 2008, Lexington police were dispatched to the “Around the Korner Bar” on Anniston Drive regarding shots fired.  Hank Means, age 35, was shot numerous times and was found in the parking lot.  The case remained unsolved for several months and, in November, Yves Garner was arrested for the homicide.  This case involved gang issues. Victim Natalie Herbst-Vinge

A 76-year-old woman, Natalie Herbst-Vinge, was kidnapped, beaten and thrown into the trunk of her car by a young vacuum cleaner salesman, Jeffrey Edward Nelson. She was driven around in the trunk of her car for 26 hours and was close to death when a San Diego County Deputy Sheriff stopped the vehicle as a result of suspicious driving and discovered the victim in the trunk. Defendant Leon Jewell

Leon Jewell left his 9-month-old child in a car on a 94 degree day. Jewell had spent the morning driving to the liquor store and drinking. He returned to his house with 9-month-old Danny buckled in the child car seat.

His wife returned home from work and found Jewell passed out in the basement. She frantically searched for Danny. She found him lifeless in the over-heated car. The Lexington Division of Police investigated the case and Jewell was charged with homicide in Danny’s death. Read more »
