Juvenile Crime

An area of specialization within the Crime Victims' Assistance Office deals with victims of juvenile offenders. The advocate works with all victims of juvenile crime when the juvenile case is transferred to Circuit Court. Once the case is transferred, the juvenile is prosecuted on felony offenses and the victim is informed of all proceedings regarding the juvenile case. Likewise, the advocate maintains all office statistics on the number of juveniles who are transferred.

The advocate is involved in preventive efforts within the community. Partnerships have been formed with other youth-serving professionals to organize and present a DUI education program within the local high schools. The advocate also works with other agencies and organizations to coordinate our efforts in preventing juvenile crime. Many of the prevention committees that the advocate works with are directed toward diverting youth from entering the juvenile justice system and working to restore safety in schools through Fayette County.
